Concept
The corridor is 180 feet wide right-of-way with 3 traffic lanes, a protected bike lane and a pedestrian path on each direction. The 2-mile extension goes through the Upper Petroglyphs open space, where the natural landscape is to be preserved. Arroyo Vista Blvd connects the future Upper Petroglyphs residential and industrial development with Interstate 40 and Atrisco Vista Blvd. Domestic water and sanitary sewer trunk infrastructure is included within the right-of-way to support the future development. Trunk stormwater infrastructure is also present, extending the existing Ladera Dam system west and north.

Challengues
The main challenges were to create an embankment that induced a minimum disturbance on the open space area, protect the natural drainage schemas and allocate all the trunk and local utility infrastructure within the right-of-way width. The other challenge was to construct a wildlife crossing under the pavement.
Solutions
We developed an optimized roadway profile that produced the minimum impact on the surroundings, at the same time reducing erosion. We also assisted in the design of the wildlife crossing with a concrete box culvert that crossed the roadway and all the utilities.
