Villa Draco

In the south of Spain, on the Costa del Sol, Villa Draco stands motionless in front of the sea. The Mediterranean Sea is the fundamental source of inspiration for being Draco. The memory of the Mediterranean is one of the maxims when it comes to design. Culture and history are very present. The architect aware of this has managed to make a modern design with the basic concepts of being Mediterranean. Where the blinding light, filtered light, the freshness of the water and the sea have been the construction elements of the Villa Draco.

Concept

The house is developed on one floor, distributed in an L shape on the plot. The differentiation between public and private spaces is very present, as in the ancient Roman villas or Arab palaces. Public life takes place around the pool and the living room-kitchen. The routes are very important, always with an almost processional sense, forcing to recognize the architectural elements, focusing the views or imploring the wanderer.

Challenges

Design a house with optimized views, improved routing, distinct living spaces, and designated private spaces. The aim is to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing layout that maximizes the scenic views while providing clear and convenient access to different areas of the house. The living spaces must be separated from the private spaces to provide privacy and comfort to the occupants. The design should strike a balance between open and closed spaces, allowing for both privacy and connectivity.

Solutions

Evaluate the plot and determine the optimal orientation of the house to take advantage of the views and natural light. Design an L-shaped floor plan that maximizes the use of the plot and separates the public and private spaces. Optimize routing to create a processional sense and emphasize the architectural elements. The routes will be designed to direct attention to specific views and architectural features, leading the occupant through the space in a deliberate manner. Integrate landscaping into the design to enhance the views and create a connection to the surrounding environment.
